Compare concrete quotes by scope, not just the total
A useful comparison starts with the same dimensions, intended use and finish. Then compare preparation, materials, drainage, disposal, access and completion responsibilities. A lower total is not necessarily the same job.
- 1Define the same project
- 2Compare inclusions
- 3Resolve omissions
- 4Review written agreement
Give each provider the same starting information
Prepare a measured sketch, photos, intended use and known access constraints. Identify existing concrete that needs removal, nearby structures, irrigation and any requested changes to grade. Keep your assumptions visible so the provider can correct them at the site assessment.
Ask what the price includes
A proposal should make the boundaries understandable: demolition, excavation, base preparation, forms, reinforcement where specified, concrete, finish, joints, cleanup and restoration. Ask how unexpected conditions will be handled and how changes will be approved. This guide gives no local price range because a verified project-specific quote is needed.
Clarify responsibility before work
Identify who obtains required permits, coordinates inspections, locates utilities and protects property. Ask for license and insurance information relevant to the actual work and verify it. Read payment milestones, cancellation and warranty terms from the provider. The website does not verify qualifications or guarantee the work.
Use the differences to ask better questions
If one proposal includes a drainage alteration and another does not, ask both providers to explain the site problem before treating them as comparable. If a line is absent, mark it unresolved rather than assuming it is included. Keep copies of the final written scope and any approved changes.
